Summer is currently in full bloom. Power to run the AC has become limited as heat waves sweep through most of the U.S. There are many things you can do to cool down if your Irvine home is without an AC.
First off, place something frozen in your hand for as long as possible. This will cool your body by as much as 3 degrees Fahrenheit and will last for more than an hour. If it starts to hurt, stop. Even if you are not thirsty, drink plenty of water. You have to compensate for all of the fluids lost from sweating. Avoid direct sunlight. If you do go outside, cover up with airy, loose-fitting clothes.
Turn off all heat sources such as lights or the TV. Take a cool shower or bath, making sure you get your hair wet. Place a wet towel behind your neck, on your forehead, on the inside of your wrists and elbows, and on the backs of your knees. The rest of your body will naturally cool down by cooling these points.
If all else fails, go to the library, a bookstore, or other air-conditioned location. Roughing it for a couple of days shouldn't be that hard. After all, people have lived for thousands of years with no AC.
