Summer is in full bloom. With heat waves stretching across most of the country, energy to run the AC has become limited. There are a couple of things you can do to cool off if your Irvine home is without an AC.
Hold something frozen in your hand for as long as possible . This can lower you body temperature by as much as 3 degrees Fahrenheit and will last for up to an hour. Stop if it starts to hurt. Even if you aren't thirsty, drink plenty of H2O. All of the fluids depleted from sweating need to be made up somewhere. Wear airy, loose-fitting clothing if you have got to go outside, but it's smart to keep out of direct sunlight.
Shut off all the lights and all other heat sources, like the computer. Take a cool shower or bath, making sure you get your hair wet. Place a damp towel behind your neck, on your forehead, on the inside of your wrists and elbows, and on the backs of your knees. These points will naturally cool the rest of your body down.
Go to the movies, mall, or other air-conditioned place if everything else fails. People have lived for many years without AC. Roughing it for a couple days will not be that difficult.
